On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at approximately 12:57 a.m., the West Chicago Fire District responded to an activated fire alarm in the 100 block of West North Ave. in West Chicago. Firefighters arrived on the scene and began to investigate the activation of the building's fire sprinkler system. Firefighters determined that the building's fire sprinkler system was activated in a first-floor apartment. When firefighters entered the apartment, they discovered a small fire contained by the sprinkler system. Firefighters used an extinguisher to put out the remainder of the fire and additionally located a victim in the apartment. The victim was removed from the apartment and transported to a local hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation and burn injuries. The remaining building occupants sheltered in place or were temporarily relocated during the incident and have all returned to their apartments. No other apartments in the building were affected by the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation but appears to be accidental. Several neighboring Fire Departments assisted the West Chicago Fire District with this incident. If you have any further questions, you can call the on-duty shift commander at 630-231-2123. |
